DHAKA, Bangladesh, Mar 20 (BSS)- Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, president of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, has been nominated for the GreatMinds of the 21st Century, one of the most popular and sought- after books among the world's greatest library collections of influential and creative minds by the American Biographical Institute (ABI).
Research Board of Advisors of American Biographical Institute, comprising over 14,000 respected leaders all over the world, as well as professionals organizations, civic groups, corporations and personal researchers, submit the nomination, according to the ABI.
Dr. Ali has been referred to the Editorial and Advisory Board of the ABI as a candidate who deserves inclusion in this extraordinary work due to his great mind, it said.
This book will contain the unabbreviated expanded style biographies of fewer than one thousand men and women who have tuned their minds to such an extent that their discipline has been mastered and commended, according to the sources.
Some impotent names who will be included in the book, along
with their biographical details are: Albert Einstein, Professor
Stephen Hawking, Mark Twin, Dr Martin Luther King, Dalai Lama,
Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Meya Angelou, Prime Minister
Margaret Thatcher and John F. kenedy, sources said.
Dr. M. Shamsher Ali was born at Bheramara, Kushtia, and
though his ancestral home was in Shingia in Jessore district.
Dr. M. Shamsher Ali obtained his Masters of Science (MSc)
degree in Physics from the University of Dhaka in 1960 and PhD in
Theoretical Nuclear Physics from Manchester University, UK in
1965. Dr. Ali, well known as the Founder Vice-Chancellor (1992-
96) of Bangladesh Open University, had also served as professor
of Physics at the University of Dhaka from 1982 to 2006.
Prior to teaching, he had worked at the Pakistan and
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commissions for about 21 years in
various important positions including directorship of Atomic
Energy Centre, Dhaka (1970-78). Dr. Ali was elected President of
the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences for the period of 2004-2012.
He is currently the vice- chancellor of Southeast University.
He was awarded the Hari Prasanna Roy Gold Medal in 1974 by
the University of Dhaka for original contribution to Nuclear
Physics, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Gold Medal in 1985, TWNSO
(Third World Network of Scientific Organizations) Award in 1990
for the promotion of the Public Understanding of Science, the
J.C. Bose Gold Medal, the Mother Teresa Gold Medal and Khan
Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal. Dr Ali recently also obtained
`Life Time Achievement' from Malaysian government for his
outstanding contribution in the field of sciences.
